Also...

...realised I'd blogged about my passport and then not said anything else.
I have a new passport thankfully - finally got through the process and survived! Have offered my help to the NZ Embassy for anyone else living in Al Ain who goes through that as it's pretty time consuming and difficult unless you know the drill.
Learning curve I guess...
